What a splendid evening we all have had at our Lodge Social Event yesterday evening, Saturday 18 May 2019 at Byker Masonic Hall. Great company, 73 attendees delicious food prepared by our own chef, Brendan and excellent entertainment provided by the talented singer, Lou Coel.
The members of the Lodge thanked all the guests who attended the charity function and their generous contributions towards the £500 raised. Comments received were very positive. Brethren, we are as always very thankful of your support and generosity.
The Province of Northumberland and in particularly, St Gabriel Lodge, No 2995 were privileged to have played host to Dr Richard (Ric) Berman, the Prestonian Lecturer. The presentation tracing the birth of Freemasonry from a historical and an economical perspective as an organisation was brilliant, very educative and well supported by the use of Powerpoint. On no account, can I surmise every details but suffice to say that this lecture rates amongst one of the best Masonic lectures. A rarity indeed for our Province. Over 70 attendees enjoyed such a rare occasion.
We also witnessed one of our Brethren, Bro Stephen Goulden being presented with his 60 year certificate by the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master.
At the Festive Board, we all were given the opportunity to ask questions which were dealt eloquently by Ric. On the whole it was a fantastic evening enjoyed by all.
A special thank to WM David Stockdale for inviting Dr Berman. Thanks to all those who were able to attend the Lecture.
What a grand evening we all have had on Wednesday 5 December 2018 witnessing the conferring of the Fellow Craft Degree on our Bro Andy.
The Ceremony was conducted during the regular meeting of Sandyford Lodge, No 6934. We were so thankful to WM, W Bro. Dave Robson, Officers and Brethren of the Lodge in letting us conducting the ceremony which was performed to the highest level.
The Festive Board was full of fun and laughter enjoyed by all. It was an excellent evening indeed!
On 7 November 2018, W Bro. David Stockdale was installed as WM of the Lodge. This special occasion was very well attended. The newly installed WM, Officers and Brethren of St Gabriel Lodge No 2995 thanked all those visitors who participated in celebrating this splendid ocassion. Although it was a short Installation Ceremony, it was well conducted and executed competently.
The Festive Board was well organised with the newly appointed Stewards and helpers serving well over 60 dinners a four course meals. Their enthusiasm was well noted. Most of the visitors did not leave well after 11.00 pm while others were still in the dining room well passed midnight.
On a perfect note the newly installed WM won the prize but mind he bought over £ 20.00 worth of numbers. A cheque of £ 100.00 was submitted to the Treasurer for the Lodge Charity Fund.
W Bro. Michael Povey was installed as the Worshipful Master of St. Gabriel Lodge No. 2995 on Wednesday 2nd November 2016 at Corbridge Road Masonic Hall, Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne. The Installing Master was W Bro. David Rajiah. It was an excellent ceremony witnessed by about 50 brethren present. The representative of our Provincial Grand Master on this occasion was W Bro. Tom Foo PGStB, the most senior Past Master of the Lodge.
W Bro. Michael is a joining member. He joined this Lodge after his mother Lodge was Tuscan Lodge No. 6020 closed a few years ago. He was Master of that Lodge in 1989. He received his Provincial honours of PProvJGD in 1997.
Michael is a keen and dedicated Mason who is always willing to help with the ceremony by stepping into an office with short notice. This also applies to his other Lodge, Oriental Lodge No. 9371 which is the daughter Lodge of St. Gabriel. He promised to try his best to promote St. Gabriel Lodge and make sure that his Officers will have a happy and successful year.
On Wednesday 2nd November 2016 and at the Installation meeting of St. Gabriel Lodge (SGL) No. 2995, W Bro. Thomas Ahang Foo PGStB presented a 50th Year Certificate to Bro. John Badkin PPGStwd.
Bro. John was initiated into SGL on 5/10/1966 at the age of 36 years old. He passed to the Fellow Craft degree on 4/10/1967 and raised to Master Mason degree on 1/5/1968. It took almost 3 years for John to get through his 3 degrees due to his being away at sea where he served as Chief Engineer in the merchant navy.
SGL had around 150 members in 1966 & at that time the Grand Lodge fee was 6 shillings & 6 pence and the Provincial Grand Lodge fee was only 4 shillings.
He lived and is still living at Bedlington from the time of his initiation and although the Lodge’s membership had diminished over the past 50 years, John has remained loyal to SGL by attending the Lodge meetings whenever he can. He used to spend a lot of his time visiting family in Kenya every year, especially winter months there rather than in the North East.
Bro. John received his Provincial honours of Provincial Grand Steward in 1/11/1989. (At such an early date even our Grand Lodge Dephi computer system does not have a record of it!)
