The name ‘St. Gabriel’ was chosen at the inaugural meeting on 16th June 1903. The Petition was presented on 1st July 1903 and the Warrant was granted on 29th July 1903.

The Consecration Ceremony was performed by the RW Provincial Grand Master, the Rt. Hon. Viscount Ridley in the Grand Assembly Rooms, Barras Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne on 23rd October 1903.

St. Gabriel Lodge is the second ‘daughter’ of Holmes Lodge No. 2571, which was founded in 1895 and of the 44 founders, 32 members were from Holmes.

W Bro. Joseph Dobson PProvGSwdB, the first Master of the Lodge (1903-04) was a founder of Holmes Lodge and Master of that Lodge in 1898-99. He was an estate agent and the landlord of the Masonic Hall, Edwin Street where the Lodge first met.

The Lodge held its 50th Anniversary Festival on 30th October 1953 and the late RW Bro. J. M. S. Coates OBE and his Provincial Team were invited to the celebration. Its Centenary was held on Wednesday 1st October 2003 and the late RW Bro. George Usher and his Provincial Team were present.

St. Gabriel has 3 ‘daughters’ and they are Dene Lodge No. 4635, St. Raphael Lodge No. 6261 and Oriental Lodge No. 9371.
